BGkeys are our private leak protection. They allow us to centrally control usage of BG3. Each user of BG3 must have a unique bgkey given to them by an admin. BGkeys are like the "CDkey" concept - you get one, it's yours, and while you're using it, nobody else can get on with that same key. Keys have to be given to you by a BG3 Admin. They can be disabled or deleted at any time. Before BG3 will listen for a connection, you need to input a valid bgkey on your Config screen, and have it authenticated by the server. When your bot disconnects, BG3 will disconnect your bgkey so that it can be signed on again. While you are signed on, BG3 will be tracking certain information online. We specifically store: - Your Channel name - Your Account name - The IP of the server you're connected to - Your computer's IP Only the BG3 Admin who gave you your key, and the program authors, have access to this information. For our privacy statement, please see the End User License Agreement below. BGkeys actually work to everyone's advantage. Since the tools we provide in BG3 can, in theory, be abused, historically BG3 has been a very private project. Since we now have centralized "leak protection", we can make it a more public program. BGkeys are our way of making sure all users aren't abusing the privileges we give them, so that we can trust a larger group of people. We recognize that this also means that if for some reason, the authentication server should go down, all users will be booted offline. This should be a VERY rare occurrence, however, in future builds we plan to implement a backup Auth Server to ensure the best customer service we can give. |
