Tyler Worman

I'm a software developer residing in Ann Arbor, MI. I originally hail from Allentown, PA

I presently work for University of Michigan Health System as a Senior Data Architect. I'm helping to develop a self service data warehouse using feeds from Epic Clarity and other health care products. I occasionally work for MakerMedia/Make: Magazine covering events, building projects and reviewing new tools.

I've worked in the health care and energy trading/marketing industries doing integration, software development, and business intelligence (BI) work. I have significant professional experience with each of the technologies listed below.

  • Oracle PL/SQL
  • Data Warehousing
  • EPIC Clarity
  • Distributed Computing
  • Microstrategy
  • Informatica
  • webMethods
  • .Net Smart Clients

I am an Honor graduate of the Moravian College (Bethlehem, PA) Computer Science program, Class of 2007. I studied under the advisement of Ben Coleman.

During my time at Moravian I developed an interest in distributed computing and network algorithms. I worked with Dr. Gerencher of the Earth Science department to create a multiplatform client for the colleges Seismic Internet Monitoring Application (SIMA) project. In my final year at the college, I wrote an honors thesis that explored differences between network routing algorithms on specific topologies of networks. Part of the project required modeling network topologies and designing a discrete-event simulation that allowed simulation of trafic across the desired topologies. The paper is available by clicking the button below.

I take joy in coming up with an idea and building a physical version of it. I'm the type of person that wants to know how things work.

My love for building has led me to be involved with the maker movement. I founded a makerspace in Allentown, PA called Make Lehigh Valley. I'm presently a member and previously on the board of the Ann Arbor, MI makerspace All Hands Active. I assist with running classes, maintaining the space and helped navigate the crazy process of becoming a 501c3 non-profit.

I also write for MakeMedia/Make:Magazine. I'm published in the physical magazine, write for the blog and build projects for publication. You can see some of my writing here: LINK

Disc Golfer

In my free time I like to play disc golf. I've traveled all across the country to explore various courses over the past 12 years. In the summer, I can be found playing a round two to three times a week. This website has some information on the courses I've played and my opinion of them. My bag is filled with a mixure of Innova and MVP ION discs.

I've been hooked on Ski-ball, Air Hockey, 2D platformers and SHMUPS arcade games since a young age. I can't pass up visiting a good arcade! My proudest retro-gaming achievement is having beat Radiant Silvergun (despite it eating a crazy amount of quarters).

I also enjoy playing boardgames and can be found teaching them to others pretty regularly. Lately I've been playing a lot of Ticket to Ride, JungleSpeed and Carcassonne.
